Bremervale Santa Gertrudis stud has 50 years of purebred Santa Gertrudis breeding in their herd. Bremervale is run by Matthew & Cathy Wainwright and family and is situated at Warwick with properties at Texas, Inglewood and below Cunningham’s Gap at Rosevale. We run 700 purebred Santa breeders in conjunction with our Grandfather Mervyn Christensen who operates the Santa Rio Santa Gertrudis stud.
The Bremervale Stud has strong commercial focus with our stud breeding. Sires are selected for growth rate, structural soundness, temperament and carcass characteristics. One of our most important breeding objectives is fertility, which requires our breeders to calf each year or they are culled. Sires are semen tested each year before they are put out with the breeders also. This policy results in breeders that have good constitutions and are efficient and easy doing.
Bremervale is situated on light forest country in the ticky area. This results in our stock being extremely hardy, with a strong constitution and when placed on western country, out of the ticks they go ahead in leaps and bounds.
We have been selling paddock bulls for the past 25 years to repeat buyers, with the remainder of our progeny being finished in our own feedlot and fed for the highly competitive Woolworths market. The requirement for high quality cattle in this market has pushed us to purchase only the best quality bulls on the market. Due to the commercial focus of our breeding program we produce for sale, high growth, well muscled, thick set, carcass bulls.
Bremervale Stud is based on Yarrawonga, Rosevale, Canowindra, Goonoo and Wave Hill bloodlines. Our sires currently in use include Rowanlea Barton by Tyndale Noddy ($16 000), Rosevale Zenith (P) by Tyndale Noddy (P), Noralla Encosta by Swan Hill Bancroft plus sires from Rosevale, Sujo, Wave Hill and Yarrawonga. In 2006 we secured the purchase of Waco Sebastian by Yarrawonga Omen (P) for $32,000. We purchased Sebastian for his rare combination of high growth, high muscle and high scrotum size traits, which is linked with high fertility. Weighing over 1,000 kg and having an eye muscle of 125 cm2 at only 23 months of age places Sebastian as one of the high performance sires to be sold at auction that year. This is backed up by his high EBV figures. We have 2 top quality sons of Sebastian’s for sale at Ag Show in 2009.

We would also like to introduce you to our latest addition – Rosevale Ambassador A26 (P). Rosevale Ambassador (P) was the highest price Santa Gertrudis bull sold last year for $60 000. We feel he is the best bull offered at auction for some time and Dave Greenup mentioned in his sale catalogue that “Ambassador is possibly the best bull ever offered at Rosevale”.

Ambassador was purchased for his overall faultless attributes. He is a real gentle giant, with a perfect temperament, yet incredible libido for a bull of his size, he is not one to be seen sitting under a tree. Ambassador is the complete package, covering a lot of ground and having a large, wide frame to hang the beef off and completing it off with flawless structure and a perfect sheath. He displays a real sirey presence in his herd, with his proud stance and loose, fine tropical coat
Ambassador’s performance places him as one of the leading sires in the Santa Gertrudis breed.
He is ranked in the top 1% of the breed for Domestic & Export Production Index, all Growth traits, Carcase Weight and Scrotal Circumference. With these incredible genetics behind him, we are expecting exceptional quality and consistency from his breeding and are eagerly awaiting his first calves to hit the ground in the next couple of months.
